An active driver type controller can be used to control the starting and stopping of a pump upon demand from a system. As a result of the pump running only as demanded there is a potential for energy savings.

Typically this type of control device will be used to maintain a constant flow or pressure within a system. This is managed via control of the motor based on a pressure sensor reading to the device.
